SAFETY VALVE: Most Safety valves are engineered to open at 210 degrees or 150 pounds of pressure.
SAFETY VALVE PROBE: The probe reacts to temperature, a spring located in the collar reacts and opens the safety valve.
FLUE: This serves two purposes; First, it exhausts smoke and gases to the outside air, second, heat from the heating element passes upward to heat the water. A baffle is located inside the chimney to trap heat.
INSIDE WALL: This is the metal tank wall which contains the water, calcium can also attach itself to this area.
FUEL SENSING CONTROL: The incoming gas line is connected to this unit. It contains the control that sets the water temperature.
FUEL SENSING PROBE: This probe senses when the water is colder than the set temperature and it allows the (control) to turn on the gas. When the water temperature is reached, it tells the control to shut off the gas.
GAS HEATING ELEMENT: The pilot light is located here. It ignites the gas to the heating element, in turn the element heats the water.
LOW POINT: This is where the sand and other debris collect.
DRAIN VALVE: This is used to drain the tank.
COLD WATER INPUT: This plastic type pipe is the cold water input.
HOT WATER OUTPUT: This is located at the top of the tank. (the short pipe)
SMOKE & GASES TO OUTSIDE AIR: These are usually vented through an insulated chimney pipe to the outside air (on top of the roof).
